John Paul
President
John is president of Western Iowa Mutual Insurance in Council Bluffs and has worked there for over 20 years. He holds a bachelor's degree in business, economics, and livestock marketing from Morningside College. John serves on the Selective Service Board, People's National Bank Governing Board, Chamber Agriculture Committee, and NAMIC PAC Board. He stays involved with county, community, and church activities as well. John and his wife Cathy live near Henderson and have three grown children.
Sara Innes
Vice President
Sara graduated from the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Marketing/Home Economics. She retired from Whirlpool Appliance Co. as Home Economist product trainer and sales. She currently resides in Council Bluffs, Ia. She is a member of the Volunteer Board at IWCC, Omaha Spinners and Weavers Guild, PEO, and she is an active member of Broadway Methodist Church .
Judy O'Brien
Corresponding Secretary
Judy is Supervisor of Secondary Education for the Council Bluffs Community School District. She has been a teacher, counselor, high school assistant principal, middle school principal and high school principal - all in Council Bluffs. Judy also is an adjunct professor at Buena Vista University - Council Bluffs campus. Judy graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, received her B.S. degree from Colorado State University, and her M.S. degree from Creighton University. She is a member of P.E.O., Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Delta Kappa Gamma. Her hobbies include reading, theater and art, travel, bridge and enjoying the ongoing antics of her Irish Water Spaniel. Judy resides in Council Bluffs.
Gary Funkhouser
Recording Secretary
Gary is a retired superintendent and taught at several schools. He holds a degree from NWMSU and a Masters degree from Colorado. He currently substitute teaches, is active in his church and is in the Optimist club. He has a wife and 3 children and resides in Treynor.
Ronald Sealock
Treasurer
Ron graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1952 and Iowa State University in 1957 with a degree in Agricultural Business. He started a career in banking with Council Bluffs Savings Bank (now U S Bank) upon graduation from college and retired in 1996. His area of responsibility for the bank was supervising all the loans and investments. Since retirement he has remained active by playing golf, reading, traveling and doing volunteer work in the community. He has been treasurer of SWIEF since 1996. He is also treasurer of the Council Bluffs Senior Center and an active member of New Horizon Presbyterian Church.
Frank W. Pechacek, Jr.
Past President
In 1984, Frank was a co-founder of Southwest Iowa Educational Foundation, Inc. Frank is the managing partner of the law firm of Willson & Pechacek, P.L.C. He holds a bachelor's degree in business from the University of Northern Iowa and doctor of jurisprudence from the University of Iowa College of Law. Frank also serves as a director of the University of Iowa College of Law Foundation, Bluffs Arts Foundation, Loess Hills Chapter of American Red Cross, Pottawattamie County Community Foundation and is a commissioner on the Pottawattamie County Civil Service Commission. Frank and his wife, Beth, live in Council Bluffs.
Tori Christie
Tori works at Iowa Western Community College where she currently serves as the Dean of Enrollment Services. She received both her Bachelor's degree and her Master's degree from the University of South Dakota. In addition to being active in the Iowa Western campus community, Tori is a Commissioner on the Council Bluffs Civil Rights Commission. Tori and her husband, Jay Killion, reside in Council Bluffs.
Carol Dean
Carol was born and raised in Los Angeles, went to college at University of Colorado and married "into" Glenwood, IA. Her 3 Children would list her occupation as professional volunteer. She currently volunteers weekly at the Omaha Zoo and Council Bluffs domestic violence office. She has served on several boards, including 16 years on the Glenwood School Board. She enjoys her service on the SWIEF Board because she enjoys the members and is proud of its goals and all it accomplishes!
Todd Lehan
Todd is a Senior Vice President at Council Bluffs Savings Bank. He has been a banker in Council Bluffs for 17 years and serves on the C.B. Municipal Housing Board, Western Iowa Sports Authority Board, The Downtown Revitalization Fund Board and his church finance committee. He holds a Bachelor's degree in Finance from NWMSU and a Master's degree from Creighton University. He and his wife Lori have four children and reside in Minden, Iowa.
Jacque Muholland
Jacque graduated from the Exira High School in 1959 and the State College of Iowa in 1963, receiving a degree in elementary education and endorsements in early childhood education and reading. She has served as a board member for preschool programs in the community and has been employed in the Malvern School District for 25 years as an elementary classroom teacher, reading specialist, and reading consultant. Jacque and her husband, Ed, reside in Malvern, Iowa, and have three married children and seven grandchildren. Since retirement, Jacque has continued her activity at school, as well as in church and in the community. In addition, she spends time reading, exercising, traveling, and enjoying family and friends.
Patty Ann (Klee) Schmitt
Patty has had an extensive career in education, most recently serving as a Psychology teacher at Iowa Western Community College from 2000 to 2009. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from Western Illinois university, did graduate work at Kansas State University and received a Master's degree in Psychology from Emporia State University. She has been active in many service clubs and the community.
Joanie Tekippe
Joanie is currently a teacher for Omaha Public Schools at JP Lord School where she has taught for 26 years. She is a member of the Heartland Family Services Advisory Board and an active member of the Broadway United Methodist Church. In addition, she is a member of PEO and the Iowa State Parent Advisory Board. Joanie graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1978, from Iowa State in 1982, with a degree in elementary education, and from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 1987, with an M.A. in teaching severely profound and disabled children. She and her husband have two daughters at Iowa State.
Gayle Strickland
Gayle spent forty years teaching either elementary or secondary students in Alaska, Washington, and Iowa. Most of those years were spent in the Oakland and Riverside Schools. Her final ten years included serving as K-12 curriculum coordinator and teaching Advanced Placement, Honors, Early Start, and gifted classes for the Harlan Community School District. Her undergraduate work was from NWMSU, with additional study at Buena Vista University; her graduate work was from the University of Iowa, Creighton University, and Drake University, where she earned a master's degree. Her family inludes her husband, a retired teacher, a daughter, and two grandchildren. She is active in the Broadway United Methodist Church, P.E.O., and other community activities.
Harold Swanson
Harold has spent nearly his entire life working in agricultural related fields. He has taught high school agricultural classes and has worked in agricultural sales for many prominent companies. In 1994, he retired from Iowa Western Community College after 25 years of service. At IWCC, he established the school's agricultural department, and acted as coordinator and instructor in farm and agribusiness management. Harold is a member of the Glenwood Iowa Knights of Columbus Chapter.
Don Tischer
Don was involved for thirty-eight years in education, 19 years as a teacher of Mathematics in Ohio and northwest Iowa and 19 years as an Instructional Technology Consultant for AEA 13. Don received his undergraduate degree from Ashland (Ohio) College and graduate degrees from Ohio State and Northwest Missouri State. Don and his wife Diane, a retired community college mathematics teacher, have two daughters and two granddaughters. He is active in the St. John's United Church of Christ and is the treasurer for his townhome association. His hobbies include traveling, golf, and bridge.
Marilyn B. Weber
Marilyn retired from education in 2005. During her career, she served as a classroom teacher, media specialist, AEA consultant and AEA administrator. She holds a BA degree in Elementary Education and an MA degree in Library Science, both earned at the University of Northern Iowa. She is a native Iowan and lives in Council Bluffs with her husband, Warren, who is also an educator. She has two married children and four young grandchildren, all who live in Council Bluffs. Her grandchildren top the list of interests, but also included are sewing, dancing, reading, technology, and spending time with friends and family.
Rebecca Weilage
Rebecca is in charge of the business tax department at Dickinson & Clark CPA's where she has worked since 1994. She enjoys working with clients primarily in providing accounting and business tax return services and also provides software support to clients. Rebecca graduated from Buena Vista University in June of 1997 with her Bachelor of Arts Degree in accounting. She stays very active in the community and at her church.
